The Simple Woman's Daybook - 3

FOR TODAY

Outside my Window...another beautiful, although hot, summer morning; lots of pretty, colorful zinnias

I am thinking...about my upcoming "sister's trip"

I am thankful for...the opportunity to show hospitality yesterday.

From the kitchen...Not much going on in there : ) It's probably going to be about 100 degrees today so I think the menu today calls for staying out of the kitchen! We have lots of leftovers from the weekend to enjoy.

I am creating...a baby gift today. Fabric covered diaper wipe box (travel size) and burp cloths.

I am going...to stay home all day. Young Women's Cancer Support Group is tonight and I plan to go and meet some of the new ladies and offer some encouragement.

I am wearing...shorts and a tee shirt.

I am reading...the newspaper.

I am hoping...for cooler weather so I can bake cookies this week.

I am hearing...the air conditioner. I am home alone so it's pretty quiet around here.

Around the house...Rachel's room is finished and looks oh, so, nice. It's all ready to greet her and my sister later this week. The rest of the house is clean as well. It is so nice to wake up on Monday to a clean house.

One of my favorite things...hearing from old friends.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week...Lunch with a friend I haven't seen in over 2 years; packing for my trip; errands in town one day; home school support group officer meeting.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you...

Thanks to Peggy for hosting the Simple Woman's Daybook each week!

Counting Down the Days

This is one of those weeks I am counting down days:
4 days until my girlie arrives back home with my *big* sister
6 days until my girlie, *big* sis, and I fly out for a week with *baby* sister!! Oh what fun it will be to be in the company of my great sisters and the *little* nieces. We get to be there to celebrate Emily's 5th birthday with her and to see Brooke (21 mos.) for only the second time. I am so excited!!

Wednesday I am having lunch with a friend that used to go to our church and we worked in kid's church together for several years. I haven't seen her in over two years - wow - time flys way too fast. This is the friend I trusted to take my son to Costa Rica!!

I have some loose ends to tie up this week in preparation for my trip but I have a clean house and a plan to get things done. Just have to stick to the plan : )

It's been a good weekend - productive for me. We attended an Eagle Scout Court of Honor yesterday for a friend. We met some of Robert's contract workers for dinner after that. Tonight we had them over for a home cooked meal. (They are living in a motel for 10 weeks) We grilled shish kabobs, baked sweet potatoes and peach cobbler cooked in dutch ovens over the coals, green salad, and French bread - well, we were SUPPOSED to have bread. Allan and I decided to cook it on the gas grill instead of heating up the kitchen and well, let's just say this - French bread cooks really quickly with the gas grill on medium - lol!!

The Simple Woman's Daybook - 2

FOR TODAY

Outside my Window...an overcast sky and a nicely mowed lawn (thanks Allan!)

I am thinking...about errands that need to done today.

I am thankful for...our air conditioner being repaired yesterday after a rather warm Sunday. 90 degrees and 70% + humidity can make me rather grumpy.

From the kitchen...This morning I have baked muffins (from scratch - wow- from the queen of box mixess!) 1/2 were blueberry, 1/2 were chocolate chip. Mixed up some lemonade and a pitcher of tea and put supper in the crockpot. Supper is a newer recipe from a friend that is oh, so easy. Mix 1 can cream of mushroom soup, 1 can chicken broth, 1 can "rotel" tomatoes, 1 can of corn, and 1 or 2 cans of beans (use whatever you have on hand or your family favorites - I used one can of chili beans and one can of black beans today). Add boneless skinless chicken breasts and cook on low all day. Toward the end of cooking add some minute rice and cook until the rice is done. This is really good alone or it can be served over tortilla chips, wrapped in a tortilla, etc. We like it with a salad.

I am creating...nothing much right now. Finished the Eagle Scout scrapbook Saturday : )

I am going...to get my hair trimmed today : ) I am trying to let my hair grow out a bit but want to have it shaped back up. This is haircut #3 post-chemo!!!! Pre-cancer, I liked having my hair cut every 4-6 weeks.

I am wearing...umm, old shorts and a t-shirt (still gotta get dressed for the day).

I am reading...not too much this week.

I am hoping...to accomplish much today. After having no a/c for a couple days, some things got pushed aside. Lots of laundry needs to be done.

I am hearing...the t.v.

Around the house...Rachel and I need to work on her room and hope to mostly finish. We emptied the closet yesterday, gave it a fresh coat of paint (1st in 18 yrs. actually). Today we will work on putting things back in the closet and move on to decluttering the rest of her room.

One of my favorite things...a clean, uncluttered room.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week... Not much on the calendar this week. Packing for a trip to visit family in Louisiana this weekend.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you...(guess I will try later - can't upload right now)

Praying It Through

I have to admit that lately I have been discouraged because so many people around me seem to be going through so many rough times. I know that as believers we aren't exempt from troubles and I have seen in my own life how God sees us through our problems. I'm working hard at trying to stay positive and let my words reflect what I know God's Word says and not what I see. I have been praying and standing in agreement with a friend for the past eight months about a situation in her life. It hasn't always been easy to stay positive but it has caused me to do some deep thinking and ask myself some questions about my faith and trust - if I am going to agree to pray for the situation, then I better really believe that God can work in it and my words had better reflect that - always. It's been a learning and growing experience. It's been an honor to be in agreement with her and stand with her believing that we would see God move even when others around us didn't necessarily agree. Great news came today that some things in the situation are beginning to turn around and there has been a tremendous step forward. This is like a giant leap for my own walk and I am thankful that I am able to see it and to continue to stand in agreement with this friend. I will continue to pray it through with her until we see it fully resolved. Praising the Lord tonight for the work he is doing!
